Back again, with a new update in the self-driving cars market, Elon Musk introduced “Actually Smart Summon” in Tesla cars. Earlier today, this feature was revealed and known to let Tesla cars search for their owners themselves in parking lots to park via full Self-Driving if not parked there already. This update supersedes the main part of the Smart Summon that enables cars to navigate short distances in parking lots autonomously, but now it can tackle increased complexity levels of parking lot designs and paths, more than one obstacle, in addition to dynamic environments where self-driving cars may have to adjust for pedestrians and other vehicular traffic.

Smart Summon is the innovative technology labelled as Actually Smart Summon and works in locations like private parking lots and driveways. Musk used it on Twitter, where he posted videos of Teslas driving through rows of parked cars or other objects and driving straight to owners who were waiting nearby. The idea is to improve mobility in complex, real environments such as Costco parking lots, with reduced variability. Both supporters and critics have chimed in, some hailing the possible amenity, others voicing worry re safety in overly packed parking lots.

Although the technology remains confined to the L4 category for regulatory reasons, meaning it can not be used on public roads currently, the video showcases another development toward true autonomous cars. This update is part of Tesla’s larger initiative to bring autonomous vehicles into more common use despite creating some controversy around its preparedness and safety across all domains.
