Woman Seen on Camera Tearing Her Husband's Passport Under Investigation by Nigeria Immigration Service

Following a video showing a lady purposefully breaking a Nigerian passport at Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has opened an official investigation into the incident. The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) spokesperson, Kenneth Udo, verified this, stating that the woman was identified as Mrs. Favour Igiebor, whose passport number is A11990869. The widely shared footage demonstrates NIS officers being there for the incident but doing nothing to stop it. The woman confidently declared, "na me tear am" (I'm the one who tore it), but even with her candid admission, she was allowed to leave the airport without being arrested or subjected to any repercussions.

The angry woman apologized profusely for burning her husband's passport in the now-viral video. The woman freely admitted to the deed, took their two kids with her, and left her husband behind. Her husband was stunned and dumbfounded by the abrupt turn of events. "Take my kids out for me. You sleep there if that's where you wish to sleep. Arrive and depart. It's Nigeria here. She told her husband, "Na here you dey" (You're in Nigeria now). Surprisingly, NIS personnel counseled the spouse to reply silently, suggesting that as a man, he should quietly bear the humiliation without speaking out, while also consoling him and advising him to maintain his composure.

In reaction to the event, the Comptroller General of Immigration, K.N. Nandap, ordered that Mrs. Favour Igiebor be invited for additional examination. The statement was made public that evening and signed by Udo. "If the allegations are proven true, her actions would be in violation of Section 10(b) of the Immigration Act 2015 (as amended), with penalties specified under Section 10(h) of the same Act," the statement stated.

The Nigeria Immigration Service is unwavering in its dedication to protecting the integrity and dignity of the country's legal frameworks, as well as to enforcing the Immigration Act's provisions in the interest of national security.
