Supreme Court rebuffs RFK Jr. bid to get on New York presidential ballot

The United States Supreme Court rejected Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s attempt to get his name back on the presidential ballot in New York. Kennedy, who had suspended his independent presidential campaign in August and endorsed Donald Trump, sought emergency relief from the Court after the lower courts dismissed his New York residency claims as fictitious.

The Supreme court released their decision on the afternoon of friday September 28, 2024 in a simple one-line order.

His team insisted that Kennedy should be allowed to stand to enable his fans to have an opportunity to vote for him as over a hundred thousand New Yorkers supported his candidacy through petitions. Still, all these attempts have remained futile because the Court dismissed the appeal through a one-line ruling without elaborating on its verdict.

Kennedy’s lawyers pointed out to the court, arguing that the concerns regarding whether he rightfully resided at one of the Katonah, New York addresses or not would not be a concern with the electorate but the courts were not swayed. Therefore, he was stripped of the ballot in New York.

This ruling further adds to the series of legal misfortunes to Kennedy, whose name was recently stricken off ballots in Arizona and Georgia, among others. Kennedy’s camp has not yet made other moves. Still, the struggles to either be either present or absent from various state ballots have ensnarled his campaign even after its official suspension.
