Scores of Police Officers Storm Edo State House of Assembly
Large number of security officers have been spotted arriving the Edo State House of Assembly complex in Benin City in addtion to patrol vehicles stationed around the area.
This comes arely 24 hours after members of the House impeached the Deputy Speaker of the House, Yekini Idiaye. His impeachment came days after he declared his support for the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
According to reports gathered by The African Media, the move was to halt any planned attack on the facility following the impeachment action taken by the house in a plenary session.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Ayoola Ajala, led the operation and is currently on ground to supervise and ensure law and order at the Edo state house of Assembly.
The 2020 Edo State Governorship elections is scheduled to hold on September 19, 2020.
The forth coming governorship election has sparked many political actions in the state as both parties go head on in a bid for the governorship seat.
Governor Godwin Obaseki who is the PDP flag bearer earlier accused the All Progressives Congress of trying to fuel violence in the state in view of the election.
