Police Debunk Reports Of Alleged Planned Attack On UniAbuja

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has dismissed reports on social media, claiming that there is a planned terrorist attack at the University of Abuja, UniAbuja. Some of these rumours included assertions that there were strangers who were planning to kidnap students on the campus. Nevertheless, the FCT Police Command has refuted all these allegations, stating that the entire information is peddled in the media to create unnecessary alarm.

FCT police command spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, refutes the report and says people should stop spreading such falsehood. The police have also stressed that sufficient security measures have been deployed in the university compound and the neighbourhood in order to curb insecurity among the populace as well as enhance security for students. In turn, communities all over theinois have been urged to be alert and report any suspicious activities to the emergency numbers directly.

This follows increased concerns from parents, students, and the rest of society after these reports went viral around the globe. The police have calmed the public by stating that there is no threat at this time they have encouraged people not to share information that may cause fear in society.

In her statement, she said;

"the FCT Police command wishes to clarify that these reports are nothing but baseless publications propagated by rumour mongers aiming to create unfounded panic and apprehension among FCT residents and University community.

“The COMMAND hereby reiterates its commitment to securing and safeguarding the lives and property of residents in the FCT as adequate deployment of personnel and equipments have been implemented to enhance the security situation within the FCT, which includes the University of Abuja.

“The command also urges members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the FCT Police Command’s emergency numbers: 08032003913, 08028940883, 08061581938, and 07057337653. For complaints, please contact PCB at 09022222352 or CRU at 08107314192.”
