On Monday, 3rd of August 2020, a gas explosion rocked Lagos State at Alafia Bus Stop in Orile Iganmu.
This horrific explosion claimed the life of a 35-year-old man, Ajibola Olaoye who was working on a heavy duty truck at his shop.
From eyewitnesses reports, there was a leakage in the supply line of the gas cylinder which resulted to an explosion that claimed the life of the artisan, Ajibola who was using welding equipment for work.
The gas explosion occured about 3:00pm in Lagos. Four other men who were also present at the location of the impact were injured and rushed to a hospital within the vicinity.
The Director-General of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the report, and mentioned in his statement:
“Upon arrival at the scene of the incident, it was discovered that there was an explosion from a gas cylinder used in welding a truck flatbed with unknown registration number as a result of gas leakage from the cylinder.”
“However, Olaoye lost his life at the scene of the incident and four adult males sustained different degrees of injuries and had been rushed to the hospital before the arrival of the LASEMA, Response Team, LRT, Police, LNSC and Lagos State Fire Service who are responders at the scene.”
“The deceased was bagged by the LRT and handed over to his family in the presence of officers of the Nigerian Police Force from Amukoko Division.”
Lagos state is said to have been experiencing series of explosions of recent. A previous explosion occured last week at Ajao estate.
