Dr. Richard Montgomery, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, has stated that almost 430,000 Nigerian visa applications had been granted so far this year. This was revealed by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) in a press statement.

In order to avoid any problems, Dr. Montgomery reportedly advised candidates to apply directly and avoid middlemen during a meeting with Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM).

He assured the Nigerian diaspora in the UK of their safety and security in light of the current protests in the country.

"The UK continues to welcome competent persons to live, study, and work among its diverse population of nationalities and races."

Attacks on any community or discrimination against them will not be tolerated.

He brought up the 60 special courts that have been set up, made up of UK Police and legal professionals, to deal with criminal activity during the conference.

More than 400 people have been detained in relation to the disturbances thus far, and the government is pursuing legal action against those who use hate speech and false information on the internet to instigate violence.

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) Chairman and CEO, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, stated that "No Nigerian has been reported dead or affected by the unrest so far."
