Technology powerhouse, Microsoft has made announcement to buy the famous social media application, TikTok. This announcement was made following a statement by President Donald Trump to ban the app from America after allegations against the Government of China, using the app to monitor American Citizens.
Microsoft Chief Executive Officer, Satya Nadella stated that discussions with Presideng Trump has been made about buying the app which is owned by ByteDance.
The decision to ban the app from America arose after US lawmakers showed concerns that the app has an ability to spy and monitor users privacy.
The statement by Tech giant Microsoft is as follows:
“[Microsoft] is committed to acquiring TikTok subject to a complete security review and providing proper economic benefits to the United States, including the United States Treasury,” the company said, adding that it will “move quickly” to talk with ByteDance “in a matter of weeks.”
“During this process, Microsoft looks forward to continuing dialogue with the United States Government, including with the President,” the company added.
“This new structure would build on the experience TikTok users currently love, while adding world-class security, privacy, and digital safety protections,” Microsoft said. “The operating model for the service would be built to ensure transparency to users as well as appropriate security oversight by governments in these countries.”
It is also expected that is the deal goes through and Microsoft buys TikTok, the ban of the app will be stopped and Microsoft will own and operate the TikTok app in USA, New Zealand, Australia, etc. Microsoft will also ensure that the data of American users will be protected and remain within the United State of America.
ByteDance was accused by President Trump om Friday July 31st again and a threat was passed by the commander in chief who said he will use emergency economic powers or an executive order to block the app from operating in the United States.
