Weijia Jiang is a Chinese born West Virginian who works for CBS news as a reporter. She asked President Donald Trump on a media briefing that: “You’ve said many times that the US is doing far better than any other country when it comes to the pandemic.” And the President responded “Yes”
Weijia followed up that: “why does that matter?”, “why is this a global competition to you if everyday Americans are still loosing their lives and we are still seeing more cases everyday”.
The president responded by saying “Well they are loosing their lives everywhere in the world and maybe that’s a question you should ask China. Don’t ask me, ask China that question. OKAY?” He continued by saying: “When you ask them that question you may get a very unusual answer.”
However, Weijia Jiang took the question in a different direction. She might have thought President Donald Trump‘s response was from the fact that She’s of a Chinese descent. She quickly followed up with another question saying: “why are you saying that to me specifically?”
The President then responded by saying:”I’m saying it to anybody who would ask a nasty question like that.” He snubbed her and ended the briefing.
This has caused other media houses contemplating on the response from the President if his response to Weijia Jiang, a White House correspondent, was racial.
