A fire broke out early Friday morning on Sanni Adewale Street in the Lagos Island Local Government Area, causing widespread panic among residents. The blaze, which ignited at approximately 5:17 a.m., led to a frantic scramble for safety as the flames quickly spread.

Margaret Adeseye, the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, confirmed the incident in a statement. Firefighters from the Ebute Elefun, Sari, and Lekki 1 stations were swiftly mobilized after receiving a distress call and arrived at the scene by 5:33 a.m. Their prompt response was crucial in bringing the fire under control and preventing further destruction.

The fire, which affected several shops within a 7-story building, is believed to have been sparked by an electrical surge. While the blaze caused significant damage, destroying items worth millions of naira, no casualties have been reported as of press time. Emergency personnel remained on-site to conduct ventilation operations and ensure the safety of the area.

Adeseye praised the quick actions of the Lagos State Firefighters, noting that their efforts were instrumental in containing the situation. Investigations into the exact cause of the fire are ongoing, but the initial assessment points to an electrical issue as the likely trigger.
