Doyin Okupe Criticizes Peter Obi’s Policy, Praises Tinubu’s Agenda

Dr. Doyin Okupe, former Director-General of the Labour Party’s presidential campaign, has criticized Peter Obi, the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, for lacking a solid policy document to support his “consumption-to-production” slogan. Speaking on the administration of President Bola Tinubu, Okupe argued that Tinubu’s policy proposals are more robust and grounded in reality compared to those of his 2023 rivals, including Obi and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Okupe acknowledged Atiku’s experience and knowledge but stated that his plans, based on theoretical loan arrangements, were unsustainable, particularly in light of Nigeria’s financial challenges during the Buhari administration. He emphasized that the international community was unwilling to lend Nigeria money, rendering Atiku’s financial strategies unfeasible.

Regarding Obi, Okupe pointed out that despite the Labour Party’s rhetoric on shifting the economy from consumption to production, no formal policy document was ever presented to Nigerians. According to Okupe, Obi’s campaign lacked the necessary policy foundation to address the nation’s economic issues.

In contrast, Okupe lauded President Tinubu for his well-structured reform agenda, highlighting initiatives such as tax reforms and measures to curb foreign exchange exploitation. Despite not supporting Tinubu during the election, Okupe acknowledged that his “Renewed Hope” agenda addresses the country’s current challenges and holds potential for Nigeria’s economic recovery.
