Celebrities Who Have Adopted A Rescue Dog

It’s widely known that celebrities love to shop, but when it comes to their four-legged companions, many opt to adopt!

Rescuing shelter dogs or expanding their furry families through adoption has become a beloved trend among celebrities. This display of compassion for dogs is something we hope remains a timeless trend in the world of fame. And once these fortunate canines find their celebrity companions, they truly live the ultimate doggy dream!

Below are a few of the celebs who decided to adopt not shop for their dogs recently.

1. Miley Cyrus

The “Plastic Hearts” artist has welcomed several dogs into her life over the years, many of whom were adopted from shelters. Among her furry companions is a stunning grey pit bull named Angel, whom she adopted following the loss of her beloved rescue pit bull, Mary Jane, to cancer. In an interview with Good Morning, the singer revealed that Angel had spent three months in a shelter before finding her forever home. She expressed her joy, saying, “I can’t take my eyes off of her! Her halo shines for all to see, and I can’t wait to show her off! It’s pretty cool having an Angel on a leash! She is illuminated by the aura of the late and great Mary Jane. Long live love.”

2. Chris Evans

While on the set of the movie Gifted in 2017, the actor found himself in a dog pound scene, which led to him forming a bond with a rescue dog named Dodger. Reflecting on the experience, he shared with PEOPLE, “I foolishly walked in and I thought, ‘Are these actor dogs or are these real up for adoption dogs?’ And sure enough they were, so I was walking up and down the aisles and saw this one dude and he didn’t belong there.” He continued, “I snagged him and he’s such a good dog. They aged him at about one, he acts like a puppy, he’s got the energy of a puppy, he’s just such a sweetheart, he’s such a good boy. He loves dogs, he loves kids, he’s full of love.”

3. Dua Lipa

In July of last year, the “Don’t Start Now” singer welcomed her beloved “son,” a rescue dog named Dexter, into her life through the Labelle Foundation in Los Angeles. Both she and her boyfriend, Anwar Hadid, frequently share posts featuring their furry companion on Instagram.

4. Zac Efron

The handsome Baywatch star crossed paths with his beloved companion MACA in 2018 through the Bark & Bitches rescue organization in Los Angeles. MACA’s fate was hanging by a thread, as she was on the brink of being euthanized before the actor intervened to foster her. The rescue group shared on Instagram, “Tilly, now MACA, was being led to the kill room when we stepped in and said we would take her. She was turned around and brought to us! Then, this guy named Zac Efron came in (we hear he is an actor, but we think he actually waits tables) and fell in love.” Zac Efron went through the application process, fostered MACA, and ultimately couldn’t bear to part with her. MACA now enjoys her happily ever after with Zac, living a joyful life by his side.

5. Priyanka Chopra & Nick Jonas

Already proud parents to their furry companions Diana and Gino, the Bollywood superstar and her husband introduced their newest addition to the world last August through an Instagram post. The post featured a family portrait with their latest rescue dog, Panda, with the caption, “Our new family portrait! Welcome to the family, Panda! We adopted this little rescue (soon he won’t be so little) just a few weeks ago. We can’t be sure, but he seems to be a Husky Australian Shepherd mix… and those eyes… and the ears!!!”

6. Dan Levy

Using his platform to advocate for pet adoption, the Schitt’s Creek star shared a heartfelt message on Instagram. He wrote, “I adopted Redmond when he was four years old. He had been mistreated and abandoned at an adoption fair in Los Angeles. Finding him was the greatest thing that ever happened to me. If you are looking for a pet, first make sure you’ve thought it through and that you have the means to care for them properly, THEN please please please consider adopting. There are so many animals just waiting for a better life.”

7. Oprah Winfrey

The television icon has shared her life with over 20 dogs and currently cares for three rescues, as reported by Oprah Magazine. In 2009, she welcomed Sadie, a cocker spaniel, into her home from PAWS, a no-kill animal shelter in Chicago. A year later, she expanded her fur family by adopting Lauren and Sunny, both springer spaniels, from the same shelter.

8. David Arquette

The Scream actor became a hero for a hound when he rescued his basset hound Dallas from Last Day Dog Rescue in Michigan. According to WOUB, Dallas was discovered as a stray, residing on the porch of an elderly couple, before being brought to the Perry County Dog Shelter and ultimately adopted by Arquette. “It’s remarkable to think that Dallas was facing his final day, and now he enjoys a wonderful life in sunny California,” remarked Pamela Peterson, president of Last Day Dog Rescue. Peterson mentioned that Arquette’s wife, Christina McLarty, had a fondness for basset hounds from her upbringing, leading the couple to specifically seek out the breed during their search for a new pet.

9. Camila Mendes

During the initial days of quarantine, the Riverdale star welcomed her “cuddly lil quarantine companion” named Truffle into her life. Truffle was adopted from The Labelle Foundation in Los Angeles.

10. Jennifer Aniston

Forever friends! The actress welcomed her adorable rescue pup, Lord Chesterfield, into her life during the pandemic, adopting him from Wagmor Pets Dog Rescue. On October 11, she introduced him on Instagram, saying, “Hi! I’d like to introduce you to the newest member of our family… this is (a very tired) Lord Chesterfield. He stole my heart immediately. A HUGE thank you to @wagmorpets for the incredible work you do. Grateful you take such great care of these rescues and find them their forever homes.”

11. Liev Schreiber

During the summer months, the Ray Donovan actor welcomed his latest addition to the family, Scout, through Tobie’s Small Dog Rescue, following the passing of his other rescue dog, Woody. Schreiber initially adopted Woody and another rescue dog, both displaced by Hurricane Harvey, after encountering them backstage before a 2017 appearance on Live with Kelly and Ryan. According to PEOPLE, Schreiber shared with the hosts, “My sons want a dog and I found the perfect dog, but one of your producers already wants my dog,” prompting Seacrest to jest, “I think this is going to work out for you.”
