Jules Kounde had been strongly linked with a move to Chelsea towards the end of the summer transfer window, but in the end they failed to meet Sevilla’s asking price, much to the Frenchman’s frustration. However, Head Coach Julen Lopetegui wanted Kounde to be 100 percent focused on the job in hand, rather than thinking about his future.
Sevilla manager Lopetegui told Diario de Sevilla:
Koundé didn’t join Chelsea because our Sevilla board decided it was the right thing to do, based on the value of the offers. For me it’s positive – he’ll perform again at top level”, he told to Diario de Sevilla.
Kounde was sent off for France against Bosnia in their World Cup Qualifier, yet his centre-back partner at Sevilla, Diego Carlos, believes that he is ready to give his all for the club this season.
Diego Carlos said on Radio MARCA Sevilla:
Kounde for me is a great friend, an excellent player, one of the best defenders around today, I’ve been talking to him a lot, he’s a player who is growing every day and is ready to compete at any club, but his head is now focused on Sevilla. He’s much calmer, he’s an excellent player.”
In the two games Kounde has played for Sevilla so far this season, they have not conceded and picked up all six points. Then, in the game against Elche that he missed, they drew 1-1.
