Newspaper vendors have taken to the streets of Abuja to protest the unjust killing of their colleague, Elechi Ifeanyi on Thursday, 19th November 2020.

THEAFRICANMEDIA recalls that Ifeanyi was killed by a stray bullet shot by a security detail in the convoy of Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila.

The Chairman of the Abuja Vendors Association Etim Iwara who urged members to not distribute newspaper informed members of the association to converge at Area 1 axis for the protest.

According to reports, the security detail who shot Mr Elechi is an operative of the Department of State Service.

The speaker, Mr Gbajabiamila confirmed the incident in a statement on Twitter thread earlier on Friday that the “officer who fired the fatal shot has been suspended from the convoy pending the conclusion of the investigation.”

However Femi said the officer who fired the shot have been suspended.
